Can you put glass in a skip?
Glass acceptance depends on the type, condition and the exact agreement with DJ Recycling. Do not assume glass panels, broken panes, mirrors and bottles can all go into the same skip.

The short answer
Glass acceptance depends on the type, condition and the exact agreement with DJ Recycling. Do not assume glass panels, broken panes, mirrors and bottles can all go into the same skip.
Why the type of waste matters
Window glass, glazing units and mirrors may have different handling requirements from packaging glass. Broken glass is also an injury risk to people loading and sorting the waste.
What to do before loading
Tell the team whether the material is bottles, a window, an old mirror or glazing from a renovation; include a photo if possible. Wrap or secure sharp fragments only as instructed.
A local authority recycling collection may be a better option for household bottles and jars; for large glazing waste, obtain a specific collection quote.
Compare the right disposal option
Before paying for a skip, compare skip hire with collection services. Tell the team exactly what you have and whether it is already mixed. The waste category affects both price and acceptance.
| Skip size | Hardcore only | Green waste only | Mixed / general |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | £100 | Ask for a quote | £125 |
| 4 yard | £130 | £150 | £220 |
| 6 yard | Not accepted | £180 | £250 |
| 8 yard | Not accepted | £200 | £320 |
All displayed skip prices exclude VAT. Delivery, collection and tipping are included in the price. Heavy soil, rubble and hardcore are restricted to 2- and 4-yard skips. Ton bags and skip bags are quoted separately.
Handling glass safely in a skip
Small amounts of household glass, like jars and broken drinking glasses, can usually go in a mixed skip. Window glass and glass from doors or greenhouses can also be accepted, but it needs care because broken panes are sharp and dangerous to the people loading and sorting the waste.
If you are removing windows or a greenhouse, wrap large sheets or lay them flat at the bottom of the skip rather than throwing them in loose. Mirrors and toughened glass are fine in the same way.
Some glass items are not just glass. Fluorescent tubes and some bulbs count as hazardous waste, and TVs and monitors are electrical waste. Keep those out of the skip and ask us about the right route for them.
Frequently asked questions
Is glass included in a general skip price?
Not automatically. The quoted price covers a particular accepted waste stream. Ask DJ Recycling to confirm the material and any separate collection or disposal cost.
What is the safest way to check?
Send the team your postcode, a photograph of the material and an approximate quantity before you load or order a container.
