YOUR QUESTION, ANSWERED

What should I know before booking?

Not all timber is the same. Clean untreated wood, painted panels, treated fencing and contaminated wood can need different waste handling. Describe what you have before arranging collection.

WHAT THIS SERVICE COVERS

Which types of wood need removing?

Wood waste can include dismantled shelving, fencing, timber offcuts, pallets and broken wooden fixtures. The next step depends on whether the wood is clean, painted, treated or mixed with other construction waste.

Timber offcuts

Suitable clean offcuts and lengths from carpentry or small renovation work.

Wooden furniture and shelving

Panels, cupboards and dismantled wooden fittings, with upholstery or electrical components identified separately.

Fencing and garden wood

Fence boards and other outdoor timber: tell us if it is treated, coated, rotting or attached to posts.

Wood from refurbishment

Flooring, skirting and joinery waste where the material, age and possible treatment are known.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Why painted or treated timber needs checking

Waste classification matters. Certain treated or contaminated wood can be classified differently from ordinary untreated timber and may not be suitable for the same collection or recycling route. Tell us about coatings, preservatives or unknown industrial uses.

We will not claim that every piece of wood is recycled. The appropriate route depends on classification, condition and available authorised facilities.

PRICES & QUOTATIONS

Wood waste collection quotes

Costs depend on the wood type, total volume, weight, length of pieces, other mixed materials and loading access. Photographs help us assess the waste stream accurately.

Wood mixed with other renovation rubbish?

Our Waste Removal service looks at mixed project materials. For waste produced over several days, ask about a correctly specified Skip Hire option.

Wood waste: what needs checking before collection

Timber offcuts, furniture panels, fencing and demolition wood are not always interchangeable waste types. Where the wood came from, whether it is treated, and what it is attached to can affect acceptance and onward processing.

Clean timber offcuts

Measure or photograph the approximate volume and length of the pieces. Offcuts from joinery or building work may be easier to assess when kept separate from plasterboard and mixed rubble.

Fences, decking and garden wood

State whether posts are concreted in, whether panels are still attached, and whether the material appears stained, painted or treated. Nails, hinges and metal fittings should be mentioned.

Wooden furniture or board products

Cupboards, chipboard, MDF and laminated furniture may not follow the same route as clean untreated timber. Describe the material rather than assuming it is all recyclable as raw wood.

Before you request a quote

  1. Photograph the pile and identify any treated, painted, laminated or contaminated material.
  2. Separate obvious non-wood waste, such as plasterboard, general rubbish and packaging where practical.
  3. Provide the longest item dimensions and say whether the wood is on the driveway, inside or at the rear of the property.

CLEAR ANSWERS

Wood Recycling FAQs

Answers to common questions before you request a quote.

Can all unwanted wood be recycled?

No. Recycling and treatment depend on the type, contamination and applicable waste rules. Tell us if the wood is treated, painted or of uncertain origin.

Can you collect broken wooden furniture?

Contact us with photographs and details. Items containing upholstery or electrical parts may need a different route.

What about old fence panels?

Describe the age, condition and whether they are treated or painted so we can check suitability.

Can I put timber into a mixed skip?

Do not assume every wood type is covered. Declare treated, painted or potentially hazardous wood before booking a skip.

How is the collection priced?

By volume, material type, handling and access. Send photos, approximate lengths and your postcode.

Is all old wood recyclable?

No. Acceptance and recovery depend on the type of timber, coatings, contamination and how it has been used. Treated wood, MDF, chipboard and mixed demolition waste may need different processing from clean timber.

Can wooden fencing and decking be collected?

They can be included in an enquiry, but please explain whether the material is treated, still fixed in place or mixed with concrete and metal fittings. DJ Recycling will confirm what can be collected.
